MCS welcoming Karen Atkins Trio

| April 5, 2024 1:00 AM

The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint Contemporary Music Department is proud to present an evening with the Karen Atkins Trio, featuring the multi-talented Karen Atkins and exceptional MCS percussionist Ali Thomas.

Joining Atkins and Thomas is Rich Simpson on bass and keyboards, with a special guest appearance by MCS contemporary instructor Sheldon Packwood. This evening of exceptional music and artistry takes place Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in Little Carnegie, a performance hall beloved for its intimate and inviting atmosphere.

The Karen Atkins Trio promises to deliver an unforgettable performance, blending contemporary sounds with surprising influences. Atkins, an acclaimed singer-songwriter with over 20 years of experience in music and wellness, is renowned for her lyrical precision, authoritative guitar riffs, and poignant melodies.

MCS officials said Atkins infuses a spontaneous, wondrous, and expansive nature of infinite possibilities into her music that resonates with listeners, enhanced by her extensive background in guiding others toward creative expression.

Thomas, head of the Contemporary Music Department at Music Conservatory of Sandpoint, brings deep expertise to the ensemble, having taught percussion for 20 years and boasting a musical background that includes piano, flute, tenor sax, bass guitar, and guitar. Her passion for West African drumming led her to study traditional drumming with the Mandingue ethnic group and collaborate with drum masters to host international workshops.

The concert will be held at the conservatory's Little Carnegie, which offers a unique and cozy ambiance ideal for live music.

"With its warm acoustics and charming setting, Little Carnegie provides an up-close and personal experience with the artists,"  Kathi Samuels, MCS development director, said. "The venue’s limited seating capacity ensures every concert is an exclusive event, inviting the audience to connect on a deep level."

MCS officials said the Friday concert showcases the Conservatory's mission to provide students of all ages and our Sandpoint community with educational and performance opportunities in a variety of musical genres.

Tickets are available online at sandpointconservatory.org/events or at the door, and we encourage early purchase to secure your spot in this intimate venue.

"Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy an evening of soulful music and support the local arts community. We look forward to welcoming you to an evening of halcyon harmony and sparkling sounds at Little Carnegie," Samuels said.
