Half of Bonner County roads to be painted this year
SANDPOINT — Half of Bonner County’s roads are getting a new paint job this year following the approval of a work bid by the Bonner County commissioners.
“[This will] replace line striping, intersection marking, railroad [crossings], crosswalks, et cetera, on various roads throughout Bonner County,” Road and Bridge Director Jason Topp said.
The department works to repaint half of Bonner County’s roads one year and the other half the following year, so the entire system gets an upgrade every two years.
Topp told commissioners Tuesday that the county had recently put out bid announcements for the project and received two responses — one from Road Products, Inc. for roughly $134,600 and the other from Stripe Rite, Inc. for around $136,200.
Some of the funds for this project, he said, will come from the remainder of the department’s striping budget line item, totaling roughly $48,300. The rest, around $86,300, will come from the Turnbull budget line item. The total cost of the project will be $134,623.06.
The department director requested that the board approve awarding the bid to the lesser of the two bidders — Road Products, Inc. This request was unanimously approved by the board and the project will begin in the next few months when the weather warms up.
