PREP TRACK & FIELD: Griesmer posts two new personal bests, pair of top 10 finishes for Spartans

MOSCOW — Sophomore Gavin Greismer placed fifth out of 38 competitors in the javelin, ninth out of 45 competitors in the shot put, as the Priest River boys finished seventh at the Moscow Invitational on Friday.

Greismer set a new personal best of 40 feet and 5 inches in the shot put, roughly 2 1/2 feet further than his previous best. In the javelin, he threw for 123 feet and 5 inches, 5 feet further than his previous best. 

Also placing amongst the top 10 in two field events was fellow sophomore Niki Porinchok, who placed eighth in the shot put and tied for third in the high jump. Porinchok threw a new personal best of 41 feet and 2 inches in the shot put, almost 3 feet further than his previous best.

In the pole vault, sophomore Ian Lamanna set a new personal best mark, clearing 11 feet and 6 inches to place third out of 17 vaulters. In the long jump, junior Carter Korff was third out of 36 jumpers with a mark of 19 feet and 3/4 of an inch. Setting a new personal best in the 1600 was junior Brayden Lamanna, posting a time of 4:50.01 to finish sixth out of 33 runners. In the 3200, sophomore Jacob Sateren cracked the top 10, finishing 10th with a new personal best time of 11:01.80.

For the girls, junior Kylee Swoboda and sophomore Chase Smith posted top 10 marks. In the high jump, Swoboda was fifth out of 21 jumpers, clearing 4 feet and 10 inches. In the javelin throw, Smith was fourth out of 30 competitors with a throw of 87 feet and 4 inches. Lizzie McCracken finished 11th in both the 800 and the 1600, setting new personal bests in each event. McCracken ran a time of 2:39.18 in the 800 and 6:03.15 in the 1600.

Priest River’s boys finished seventh out of 19 teams with 31.5 points. Priest River’s girls were 12th out of 19 teams with 16 points.

The Spartans are back in action Tuesday at the Christina Finney Relays hosted by Post Falls High.
