PREP TRACK & FIELD: Sandpoint breaks another school record at Pasco Invite

PASCO INVITATIONAL

PASCO, Wash. — Sandpoint’s Daniel Ricks, Nathan Roche, Jett Longanecker, and Kasten Grimm broke the boys distance medley relay school record to lead the Bulldogs at the Pasco Invite on Saturday.

In the distance medley relay, Ricks, Roche, Longanecker, and Grimm combined for a time of 10:45.04 and finished third out of 27 teams. The same four set the 4x800 relay school record just a couple of weeks ago.

In the pole vault, Klein Fragoso was fourth out of 35, clearing 14 feet and six inches for a new personal best; he is now tied for second in school history. Also setting new personal bests were Paul Kent, who was 13th out of 42 in the 3200 with a time of 9:44.73; Longanecker, who was 13th out 40 in the 400 with a time of 51.21 seconds; and Ricks, who was 14th out of 43 in the 800 with a time of 2:01.03.

For the girls, Ivy Smith was second out of 45 in the shot put, throwing for 41 feet and 11 ¾ inches; she was also 10th out of 46 in the discus with a new personal best throw of 117 feet and 10 inches. Elizabeth Storms placed 25th out of 36 in the 800, running to a new personal best time of 2:32.83. In the pole vault, Devin McDaniel tied for sixth out of 26 after clearing 11 feet.

VAN KUREN INVITATIONAL

CHENEY, Wash. – Elia Howard finished among the top five in the 100 and 200, setting new personal bests in both events, to lead the Sandpoint girls to a third-place finish at the Van Kuren Invite hosted by Cheney High on Saturday.

Howard was third out of 59 in the 200 with a time of 27.10 seconds, fourth out of 71 in the 100 with a time of 13.01 seconds. Piper Roark set a new personal best in the 100 hurdles, finishing third out of 41 with a time of 16.99 seconds. On the field, Noah Roark tied for second out of 38 in the high jump, clearing four feet and 10 inches. In the shot put, Jetta Thaete was third, throwing a new personal best mark of 34 feet and 10 inches.

For the boys, Van Lee, Maverick Gomez, Ryder Haynes, and Isaac Schmit won the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:34.10. Gomez also set a new personal best time of 11.40 seconds in the 100, good enough for second out of 57.

Sandpoint is back in action Tuesday at the Christina Finney Relays hosted by Post Falls High.
