Bernard 'Steve' Rammler, 76

Bernard “Steve” Rammler passed away at home April 3, 2024, following a two-year-long battle with colon cancer. 

Born in Kellogg, Idaho, Steve’s family moved to the Seattle area when he was a child. After graduating from Mountlake Terrace High School and serving a tour in the Navy, Steve met his future wife, Linda, at his homecoming party. They were married shortly thereafter and moved to Sandpoint in 1977. 

Steve and Linda spent 53 happy years together, especially enjoying time with family and friends. Having retired from a long career at Encoder designing circuit boards, he was an avowed “putterer” and could usually be found outside working on one project or another.

An avid hunter in his younger years, Steve later switched to feeding the local deer and enjoyed watching them in the front yard while trying to keep them out of his prolific garden. He could strike up a conversation with almost anyone and was known for keeping everyone entertained during card games, especially while camping with family and friends. Steve loved to be on the water, whether kayaking, sailing, or fishing.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard “Babe” and Phyllis Rammler. He is survived by his wife, Linda Rammler; his daughter, LeeAnn Thompson (Jim); and grandchildren Joshua Thompson, Jordan Thompson, and Jonathan Thompson (Corena). He is further survived by his sisters, Claudia Wells (Ric), Mary Raines (Brian), and Chris Brydges. He was a beloved uncle to Michelle Boyer, Lyle Wells (Katy), Ethan Wells (Jenny), Annie Reyes (Mike), Sara Newlin (Ken), and great-uncle to Vanessa Taylor, Carson Wells, Ulrik Wells, Isabelle Wells, Mason Wells, and Savina Wells. While he never had the opportunity to meet great-nieces, Jessie and Gracin Boyer or great-nephews, Nathan and Dean DiNino, we know that they would have loved him, too.

Steve was laid to rest at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sandpoint. A celebration of life will be held Aug. 24, 2024. Please contact the family for details.
