Karl F. Berkenkamp of Priest River, Idaho, passed away surrounded by his beloved family March 30, 2024.
Born on Aug. 29, 1947, Karl grew up in the serene landscapes of San Fernando Valley. He was a man of profound passions and relentless curiosity, leaving an unforgettable mark on those who were fortunate to know him.
After graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science, Karl embarked on a journey that took him across the globe before finally settling in the picturesque town of Priest River. It was here that he found comfort and purpose, tending to his cherished ranch, where he raised cattle and immersed himself in the logging industry.
Karl was an embodiment of the Pacific Northwest spirit, an avid outdoorsman who found joy and fulfillment in the wilderness. His pursuits ranged from trap and skeet shooting to downhill and backcountry skiing, from mountain biking to snowmobiling. He was a masterful rock climber, scaling heights that would daunt the ordinary adventurer.
When not engaged in these exhilarating activities, Karl could often be found immersed in the pages of books, exploring the realms of physics, economics, chemistry, and biographies. His thirst for knowledge was limitless, and he lived his life as a continuous learner, embracing every opportunity for growth.
Above all else, Karl cherished his family. His love for his wife, Elizabeth, and his daughter, Annalee, knew no bounds. He found immense joy in the presence of his grandsons: Jackson, Cooper, Cason, and John Bennett Conner. Karl's life was enriched by a large extended family who shared his passion for life and adventure.
He is survived by his devoted family: his wife, Elizabeth Trammell Berkenkamp; daughter Annalee Conner (Chad); his grandsons, Jackson Conner, Cooper Conner, Cason Conner and John Bennett Conner; and his large extended family, Nevin Trammell III, LeeAnn and Bill Cherry, Alex McKenzie, Grant McKenzie, Katherine Trammell, Martha Trammell, Paige Alden, Audrey Alden and Emarie Alden.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, H.F. Berkenkamp and Charlotte Berkenkamp.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew him.
