PREP TRACK & FIELD: Fragoso breaks Sandpoint High boys pole vault record

COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint’s Klein Fragoso cleared 14 feet and 7 ½ inches to win the pole vault and set a new school record as the Sandpoint boys finished second at the Rasmussen Invite hosted by Coeur d’Alene High on Friday.

Also taking first place for Sandpoint was Jett Longanecker, who ran a time of 51.25 seconds in the 400. The Bulldogs had a plethora of second place finishes on the day … Paul Kent was second in the 3200 while Nathan Roche finished second in the 800 with a new personal best time of 2:01.40. On the field, Matthew Kunde was second in the discus with a throw of 123 feet even, setting a new personal best for the third straight meet. Picking up crucial third place finishes were Daniel Ricks, who was third in the 3200, and Isaac Vermeer who was third in both the shot put and the discus.

For the girls, Ivy Smith won the shot put, Jetta Thaete the javelin, and Devin McDaniel the pole vault to lead the way for Sandpoint. The Bulldogs’ 4x200 relay team consisting of Bailey Majors, Noah Roark, Ani Vick, and Elia Howard won with a time of 1:49.38. Lily Richardson was second in the 400 with a new personal time of 1:03.05. Ani Vick was second in the 300 hurdles, setting a new personal best time of 48.43 seconds; she also set a new personal best in the 100 hurdles (16.49) to place fourth. It’s the second time this week Vick has set new bests in both events and now ranks fourth in the state’s 4A classification in each. Smith was also third in the discus and Thaete finished third in the shot put with a new personal best throw of 35 feet and 2 inches. 

Sandpoint’s boys finished second with 106 points, just behind Lewiston. Sandpoint’s girls were third with 121 points.

Sandpoint will be back in action today at the Priest River Invitational.
