SANDPOINT — With many options on the market, methods of installation and ways to fasten them, car seats can be a confusing venture for parents to navigate.

That’s why Safe Start will be hosting a free Community Car Seat Safety Check event this Saturday.

The event will be presented by Safe Start’s Safety Lab at the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St. There, hosts will teach about child passenger safety and infant sleep safety, and conduct car seat checks for those interested.

Safe Start, a sub-organization of the Northwest Infant Survival & SIDS Alliance, helps educate parents and caregivers through safe infant sleep classes, car seat safety classes and more.

In the realm of car seat safety, the organization covers car seat selection, direction (which way the seat faces), location in the car, installation, and harnessing.

With many options for car seat style such as convertible, combo, infant, all-in-one, available to parents, Safe Start identifies the pros and cons of each. Similarly, variants in direction and which seat to install the car seat in are important options to be addressed.

The event will be held April 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Make an appointment at safestartnw.org, or text "CHECK" to 844-619-2048 to secure your spot.
