Clark Fork High hosts first Career Fair
CLARK FORK — Clark Fork High School held its first annual Career Fair for middle and high school students Friday, and attendees said they were impressed with the turnout.
Students from Lake Pend Oreille Alternative High School were also invited to explore potential career options in the area and get ideas for what they may want to do after graduation. Almost two dozen booths were displayed at the event and staff were able to talk with students, answer questions and tell them about potential certificates, education and training requirements for each career field.
“We had 20 different tables set up from local employers, military recruiters, North Idaho College and workforce training center,” said Clark Fork High School counselor Amanda Heilman.
Heilman said over 160 students attended and got to learn about different opportunities, which was very beneficial for the students.
“With many of our students staying local, it is important that they are exposed to local careers and employment options,” she added. “It is our hope that students will find a rewarding career and employers will be able to fill needed positions.”
Bonner County Commissioner Luke Omodt, who was in attendance, said it was exciting to see so many employers eager to interact with students and show them multiple career options. He spoke with multiple students interested in county department roles such as IT and Road and Bridge, and encouraged them to pursue their individual interests and passions.
"It was a great way to see the community come together and create opportunities for our youth,” he said.
Clark Fork High School hopes to make its Career Fair an annual gathering to encourage students as they prepare for what comes after graduation.
