| April 20, 2024 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint High Esports teams are gearing up for a thrilling showdown at the upcoming Idaho Esports Associations State Tournament, set to be held May 10-11 at Boise State University's Esports Arena. With their eyes on the prize, both the Overwatch and Apex Legends teams are poised to make waves in the competitive gaming scene.

The Overwatch team, led by the indomitable spirit of the bulldog mascot, has had a remarkable season thus far. Despite a solitary setback against Rigby High, they have proven their mettle with an impressive 5-1 record in the regular season. The team’s dominance continued at a recent state play-in event where they swept through the competition with a flawless 3-0 record, dropping just a single point to Blackfoot High. Now, they are prepared to showcase their skills on the grand stage of the state tournament.

Comprised of talented gamers including Nicholas Weisgram, Noah Berrios, Ronan Curto, Everett Harrison, Logan Lindley, Preston Lemen, Delano Daily, and Madden Perron, the Overwatch squad has been a force to be reckoned with. Under the guidance of their coach and advisor, Dalton Hawkins, a dedicated teacher at Sandpoint High School, they have honed their strategies and teamwork to perfection.

However, the excitement doesn't end there. The Bulldogs' Apex Legends team, featuring talents such as Weisgram, Harrison, Perron, and Ethan Barcklay, has also made its mark in the competitive circuit. Despite ranking third in the regular season, they have proven themselves as formidable contenders, ready to battle it out for glory at the state tournament.

Both events are set to be broadcasted live on Twitch for free, allowing fans and supporters to witness the action-packed matches from the comfort of their homes. Details on how to tune in will be provided on the Idaho Esports Association website, idahoesports.gg, ensuring that enthusiasts don't miss a single moment of the adrenaline-fueled competition. If you have an Amazon Prime account, you can subscribe for free to the high school Twitch page which helps support their efforts. As the Bulldogs Esports teams prepare to make their mark on the state tournament stage, they would like to thank those who have helped make this moment possible, such as the administration at LPOSD and Sandpoint High School, Ting for the equipment donation that made the lab possible, Dairy Depot for their continued support of the program, and their parents. With skill, determination, and the unmistakable Bulldog spirit, the team is ready to take on all challengers and leave their mark on the Idaho Esports landscape. Stay tuned for an electrifying display of talent and teamwork as the Bulldogs Esports teams embark on their quest for championship glory.
