Rick Snider, 78

Richard Joseph Snider, 78, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, in Paso Robles, Calif.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint, Idaho, with Father Rob Cook officiating.

Rick was born Dec. 28, 1945, in Spokane, Wash., to Clayton and Sophia Snider. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1962. He and best friend, Gene Vick, moved to San Francisco and joined the Iron Workers Union.

Rick met Gina Pierucci in 1967 and they married Oct. 10, 1971, in San Francisco. He worked his way up to foreman of the Golden Gate Bridge, where he retired in 1990. Rick belonged to the San Francisco Dolphin Swim Club, and once a year they would swim beneath the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end.

Rick married Melanie Davidson on Aug. 28, 1993, in San Francisco. They made their home in Sonoma, Calif., for about five years before moving to Sandpoint in 2002.

He is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous. At the time of his passing, Rick was nearly 40 years sober, helping hundreds of other suffering alcoholics along the way. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, eating meals out with family and friends, and helping others. He especially loved music, collecting vinyl records, and The Beatles. He was recently honored as a 50-year member of the Iron Workers Union.

Rick is survived by his wife, Melanie Snider, of Sandpoint; son Zach Snider and his wife, Grisel Puig-Snider, of Los Osos, Calif.; daughter Julia Snider and her husband, Matt Kissinger, of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren Alexander, Ysabel, and Aidan; sister Connie Kelso, and brothers Steve and Roy Snider.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Alan, Nancy, Jim, and Jack.
