PREP TRACK & FIELD: Sandpoint boys distance impressive at Walla Walla Legends Invite

WALLA WALLA — Sandpoint’s Jett Longanecker, Kasten Grimm, Daniel Ricks, and Nathan Roche bested their school record in the 4x800 relay while Paul Kent ran the second-best time in school history in the 3200 to lead the Bulldogs at the Walla Walla Legends Invite on Saturday.

The boys’ 4x800 relay finished second in an impressive 8:08.21, just being edged out by Coeur d’Alene by less than a half second. Longanecker, Grimm, Ricks, and Roche’s time is seven seconds faster than their previous school record set earlier this year. Following the 4x800, Longanecker also posted a third-place finish in the 400.

In the 3200, Kent finished second with a huge new personal best time of 9:34.46. Kent, just a sophomore, is only behind Sam Levora on the school record board; Levora ran 9:32.24 in 2013.

For the girls, Ivy Smith was third in the shot put and fifth in the discus. In the 100, Elia Howard ran a new personal best time of 12.95 seconds to finish fourth. Ani Vick finished fifth in both the 100 and 300 hurdles while Jetta Thaete posted a fifth-place finish in the javelin.

Sandpoint will return to action on Thursday at the District I Meet of Champions hosted by Post Falls High.
