PREP TENNIS: Sandpoint takes down Lake City
SANDPOINT — The Bulldogs had to shorten their matches to eight-game pro-sets due to a storm and play at both Travers Park and City Beach, but still got the job done against the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
“I thought overall, the bad weather was good for us,” head coach Kent Anderson said. “If we have bad weather at districts or state, we’re still going to have to get through the tournament."
In boys singles, Jacob Dawson won convincingly in the No. 1 spot; Anderson said he is playing at the top of his game right now. In the No. 1 girls singles spot, Pepper Rickert defeated Maddy Nesbit, the same opponent she beat to win the Inland Empire Tourney, without losing a game.
In boys doubles, Fisher Dail partnered with Caden Martz for the first time ever and won convincingly. In mixed doubles, which were played in ‘Fast 4’s’, Elly Tutin and Brennan Johnson also paired up for the first time and brought home a win.
“It was shocking to me that anyone was able to play well, I am so impressed with this team," Anderson said. “I couldn’t even get my hands out of my pockets and these athletes were out there serving, volleying – they were really tough.”
Sandpoint hosts Moscow on Thursday.
