A daring holdup in broad daylight resulted in the theft of a Hamm’s beer truck from in front of the Chateau Restaurant at about 5:15 p.m. Monday. HOLTON HAD BEEN RESIDENT 63 YEARS
With the death July 27 of Jay Wellington Holton, passed one of Bonner county’s earliest residents. Mr. Holton was born in Michigan in 1878. His father, George Holton, brought the family to northern Idaho, where they homesteaded near Dover in 1886. Jay was eight years old at the time; Bonner county has been his home since that date. His early youth was filled with experiences that made exciting tales for his children and grandchildren. Indians were his playmates; hunting, fishing and woodcraft were his childhood occupations. In 1909, he married Carrie Bergstrom at Sandpoint. Survivors include his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Irene Kenworthy, Kootenai; Mrs. Georgia Jeppesen, Naples; Mrs. Hazel LaMoreaux, Sandpoint, and Miss Edna Holton at the home. A son, Roy, lives at Kellogg.
