Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ridley will observe their 60th wedding anniversary today from 2 to 4, in their home on the Dover highway. All friends of the couple are invited. [Married August,1914 at the Sandpoint Lutheran Church by Rev. A.M. Skindlov].

SAGLE TAKES CROWN

In the Pony League playoff, the Sagle Yankees held off a desperate rally by the Sandpoint Angels, and claimed the league title in a best-of-three series. The Pony League this year had seven teams with an average of 14 youths per team, according to commissioner Frank Travers. The coaches and their teams are: Northside Cubs, Blaine Stevens and Don Johnson; Southside Redsox, Bob Larimer and Jon Lind; Sagle Yankees, Jim Reed; Sandpoint Angels, Buck Clark and Dennis Benda; Sandpoint Giants, Duane Pederson and Rob Powell; Priest River, Pete Edwards; and Kootenai Tigers, Mark Berryhill.

WOMEN’S SOFTBALL LEAGUE WINNERS

The Plantation women’s softball team, tops in the league for season play, also won the post-season tournament. Players were Bonnie McGhee, Sandy Forgey, Debbie Chronic, Nancy “Honkey” Singleton, Patti Hart, Nancy Haviland, Debbie Dockins, Leslie Hottell, Gayla Chronic, Tricia Dixon, Lorrie Dockins, Joy Breeden, Norma Rickman and Elaine Thomas.

Aug. 11, 1949 – BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATED

Summertime is birthday party time for the younger set. On July 28, little Janie Diehl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Diehl, celebrated her fourth birthday with neighborhood friends. The children played in the yard and were served cake, ice cream and punch. Guests were Kathleen and Carol Debolock, Dickie Curtis and Linda DeWitz. 

Little Miss Danny Lu, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones, celebrated her third birthday Sunday by sharing birthday cake and ice cream with her playmates, Gwen Eckert, Diane Worthington, and Johnny, Sally and Sharon O’Donnell.

Ronnie Wakefield, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Wakefield, was host to a group of friends Tuesday in honor of his ninth birthday. Games were played and prizes for pinning the tail on the donkey went to Rickie and Bobby Morris. Ice cream and cake and candy favors were served at one big table. Guests included Rickie Watts, Dannie Deshon, Gary and Jerry Veltri, Rickie, Janet and Bobby Morris, Teddy Farmin, Donnie Wakefield and Frankie Linscott. 

Thursday afternoon, Lynn Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans, entertained a group of friends in honor of her fifth birthday with a lawn party. Games were played with prizes for the little ones and refreshments were served in the yard. Guests were Pamela Anderson, Stephanie Ann Harris, Kathleen Debolock, Larry Keister, Jimmy Barlow, Julie and Corey McFarland, Mary Vochelle, Ellen Barlow and Linda DeWitz. Deena McFarland and Peggy Jo Anderson helped entertain the group.
