Aug. 18, 1974 – STUDENTS SHUFFLED

Seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade students are in for surprises when classes begin Sept. 2. For the first time ever, all 400 seventh and eighth-grade kids will take physical education three times a week, thanks to the double gym in their new home in the New Farmin School addition. According to Principal Bill Miller, “A move into a new building is always good for everyone’s spirits.” Ninth graders will take over the Junior High building [on Euclid Ave.; in 2024, the Sandpoint Business and Events Center], where there will be some new programs, including home economics and Spanish for the first time ever, as well as an expanded woodworking shop.

LOCAL ATHLETIC FACILITIES IMPROVED

As the 1974-75 school year begins, athletes can look forward to improved facilities, among the finest in the country. Athletic Director Cotton Barlow listed additions made last year – a new high school gym floor, new field house, and new scoreboard and lights at Memorial Field. Before the football season begins, new concrete block ticket booths will be built there. Barlow said likely the most important athletic addition to Bonner County schools this year is the gym in the newly-completed Farmin School addition. Cotton said plans are in the works to renovate the track at the High School and build a new softball diamond. “Before we’re through,” he said, “we’ll have first class athletic facilities in Sandpoint.”
