Aug. 20, 1949 – $5000 FOR HOSPITAL

The city council unanimously authorized purchase of the hospital site between 2nd and 3rd on Alder for $5000. Mayor Floyd Gray said this is the only legal way the city can assist in the hospital drive. Under the proposal, the city will acquire title to the lots and will then make them available as a hospital location.

WATER DEMAND HEAVY; SPRINKLING CUT

Continued rainless days have forced stringent water regulations for Sandpoint and those served by the city water department. Beginning immediately, sprinkling is permitted only between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., thus cutting two hours off each end of the day as compared to previous regulations. Persons found irrigating or sprinkling before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. will have their water shut off as penalty.

CITY TO CONSTRUCT UNLOADING RAMP

After placing $37,000 insurance on the city dock, the city council Monday authorized construction of a hinged unloading ramp,16 ft. wide by 60 ft. long, at the dock’s end, so that in low water periods it will be possible to load and unload boats of all sizes. Fred Kennedy of Kenmor Marina said the cost would be about $500, saying it is now impossible to load or unload any boat at the dock and this improvement will stimulate use of the marina facilities. The council also authorized buying blinker lights for the marina entrance to guide boats into the anchorage area.
