Aug. 27, 1974 – PROUDLY WE SALUTE…

Army Dentist Darrel L. Mooney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon P. Mooney, Sandpoint, was promoted to Major at the Presidio of San Francisco. He is assigned to the Dept. of Dentistry, Letterman AMC. 

Col. George S. Oliver and family arrived in Dover for a vacation, after the colonel’s retirement from the US Army after over 32 years active duty. Col. Oliver lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Oliver, 801 N. Fifth Ave., Sandpoint, when he enlisted in 1942. In 1944 he married Joyce Sindelar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Sindelar, Dover. Through the years they have called Dover home. Col. and Mrs. Oliver are now visiting with their sons, Donald and James. They saw his brother, Richard, in Spokane, and his twin brother, Frank, of Laclede. After a brief stay with Mrs. Oliver’s parents in Dover, they will return to Anchorage, Alaska.

MEAT STOLEN

Mrs. Don Baldwin, 405 Lake, reported someone broke into her home, taking 50 lbs. of elk and deer.

VICKIE BLOM TO WED DENNIS MENDENHALL

Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Blom, Clark Fork, announce the engagement of their daughter, Vickie, to Dennis Mendenhall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Mendenhall, Idaho Falls. The couple chose Sept. 12 for the date of their wedding in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. The bride-to-be is a 1973 Clark Fork High graduate.

Aug. 27, 1949 – STORMS SET BLAZES

Kaniksu national forest was sprinkled with 75 lightning fires during storms that swept northern Idaho beginning Friday and going into the first of this week, but by round-the-clock work of the forest service and the cooperation of lumber and pole companies, gypoes and woods workers, all but three were corralled at a quarter acre or less, only one reaching an acre and a half.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES GIVEN

On Thursday Linda DeWitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.R. DeWitz, entertained in honor of her sixth birthday. Games were played and the traditional refreshments served, with favors for the guests: Avis and Ann Diehl, Stephanie Harris, Lynn Evans, Janie Diehl, Judy and Michael Lines, and Sharon Jones. 

On Friday Sharon Gehlan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Gehlan, celebrated her eighth birthday with games and refreshments. Guests were Terry and Larry Ham, Ronnie Bottcher, Barbara and Karen Holst, Anna Margaret and Mernie Holien, Betsy Oyen and Michael McFarland.

On Saturday Kathleen Debolock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Debolock, invited the neighborhood children for her fifth birthday. After games and treats at home, the group went to Memorial park to play.

A baby shower was given at the home of Mrs. Glen [Vernice] Stradley for Mrs. Alyce Walson.
