LPOSD adds campus security team member

Lake Pend Oreille School District strengthened its “One Trusted Adult” program by welcoming a new member to its school campus security team this month.

“Our campus officers truly support students by being there as a trusted adult,” said Dr. Becky Meyer, LPOSD superintendent.

The successful program ensures every student has a trusted contact within their school community. Campus security officers serve as role models and mentors. When students feel safe and secure, they are more prepared to learn in the classroom, Meyer said.

New CSO Michael Brambila brings a wealth of law enforcement experience and specialized training. His presence will increase coverage at Washington, Sagle and Southside elementary schools, and allow more time to build relationships with students and faculty.

Before relocating to Idaho in 2021, Brambila spent 30 years in law enforcement in southern Nevada, half as a patrol officer and half serving in specialized units.

“From the wonderful community who welcomed us to the area’s natural beauty, it’s truly a paradise and an absolute joy to live and raise our two children here,” Brambila said about North Idaho.

Brambila said he will approach the job with a “servant-warrior heart” and as a “protector.”

“I’m there to protect them but also to make them aware that I’m someone they can trust,” he said.

Brambila is the district’s third CSO. His position is partially funded by the Panhandle Alliance for Education, a Sandpoint nonprofit that provides resources in support of effective teaching, learning and school management. The remaining costs — such as training and equipment — will be funded by LPOSD.

Brambila joins CSOs JD McElroy and Keith Delahanty, along with school resource officer Don Little, a Sandpoint Police officer.

He’s looking forward to connecting with the district’s faculty. “There are certain career fields that are very special and unique. I think being an educator is one of those,” he said.

Meyer said, “Student and staff safety is always our top priority.”
