Why does party loyalty take precedence over morality?

Donald Trump has voiced his strong support for the police. He also believes they should have immunity if they conduct improper or illegal activities (like himself). Then why would he support pardoning those Jan. 6 criminals who were convicted in a court of law (like himself) when police were injured and killed? 

Why would he approve of a fundraiser for the January 6th rioters at one of his private golf clubs next month Sept. 5? I would like to see the thought process of those who still support a convicted felon and sex offender (among many other questionable legal actions), along with the words he’s used about women and the military, for president of the United States?

Would it be party loyalty rather than morality?
