SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Sailing Association and Dogsmile Adventures, a non-profit therapeutic sailing program, have successfully completed their annual youth sailing program, held June through August at the Sandpoint City Beach.

The program, which brings together young sailing enthusiasts throughout the region year-over-year, fosters a deep connection with nature while teaching kids sailing skills in a beautiful mountain setting. Participants, who range from 10 to 18 years old, learned essential sailing techniques, water safety, and environmental stewardship under the guidance of certified Dogsmile instructors and SSA boats and equipment.

The unique setting of Lake Pend Oreille, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, provided an unforgettable backdrop for the young sailors to develop their skills and confidence on the water.

"We're incredibly proud of all the participants who took part in this year's program," Jon Totten, founder of Dogsmile Adventures, said. "The dedication and enthusiasm shown by these young sailors has been truly inspiring. It's been a joy to watch them grow, not just as sailors, but as individuals who appreciate the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and a love for the outdoors."

The program culminated in a final day of racing at the Tater Tot Regatta, where participants showcased their newfound skills in a friendly competition. Families and community members gathered to cheer on the young sailors, making the event a true celebration of their hard work and achievements.

The SSA extends its gratitude to their organizational sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and the local community for their unwavering support in making this program a success. Plans are already underway for next year's youth sailing program, and the two organizations look forward to welcoming a new group of eager young sailors to a lifetime of adventure.
