Sandpoint Elks raise $25,000 for veterans at annual golf tourney
PONDERAY — The numbers are in.
A total of $25,000 has been raised for veterans and their families in Bonner and Boundary County thanks to the Sandpoint Elks' 17th annual Patriotic Golf Scramble held Sept. 15 at the Sandpoint Elks Lodge.
Chairman Linda Tatlock said that holding a golf tournament in the middle of September can be challenging, weather-wise, but the weather held this year, like in many years past, and 92 golfers took to the course. Due to the increased interest in the tournament, there was a sellout and then some crowd, which slowed the played a little, but spirits remained high as the day progressed.
The Sandpoint Elks Lodge said it is truly humbling to see the support for this tournament and on behalf of the American Legion, Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Vietnam Veterans of America, a sincere thank you is extended to all participants, sponsors, supporters and volunteers. In an Idaho State Elks Association newsletter, the Sandpoint Elks Lodge said the event continues to be successful year after year thanks to the generosity of those that support it.
