After Lake Pend Oreille School District Board Chair Geraldine Lewis announced her resignation in a Nov. 12 meeting, trustees declared a vacancy for the Zone 4 seat during their monthly meeting Tuesday.

Eligible candidates are invited to submit applications for the position to board clerk Kelly Fisher until 4 p.m. Jan. 6, 2025; the successful candidate will serve the remainder of Lewis’ term, which expires at the end of 2027.

Zone 4 encompasses the area east of Highway 95 and south of Highway 200, including the east half of Sagle and much of Kootenai. Only residents of Zone 4 are eligible to fill the seat.

Candidates will be interviewed in open session at the board’s next meeting Jan. 14, 2025, and trustees will vote to appoint a candidate within 90 days of Tuesday’s declaration.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer recognized Lewis’ nine-and-a-half years on the board and invited the public to attend a Dec. 17 farewell event at Pend d'Oreille Winery celebrating the former trustee's contributions to the district.

Applications for the position are available at lposd.org or in person at the district’s administrative building, 365 N Triangle Drive, Ponderay. A map of the district’s zones is available on LPOSD’s website under the Board of Trustees tab.
