Food bank named top local business
SANDPOINT — Helping others is at the core of what the Bonner Community Food Bank is all about.
That mission to serve others is one of the key reasons the food bank was selected as the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce's Business of the Month for December.
Established in 1980 by local citizens wanting to help others in the community, the food bank's mission is to assist those experiencing personal crisis with supplemental meals. The food bank, which has locations in Sandpoint and Priest River, will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2025.
The organization provides food distribution, nutrition education, resource referral and volunteer opportunities. Committed to welcoming individuals in need, chamber officials said the food bank was selected for the honor because it creates a safe and non-judgmental experience for those seeking assistance.
In recent years, officials said the number of families and individuals needing food bank services has increased 53%.
"Today we honor the incredible work that the Bonner Community Food Bank does for our community," chamber executive director Mickey Quinn said in announicntg the organization's selection. "We thank the staff, volunteers, board members, and those in our community who donate to the food bank to keep this vital service healthy so they are able to continue to serve those in need."
