Tracking class announced near Libby
A beginner's winter birding and animal tracking class will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by Libby Hostel Base Camp.
Participants will meet at Riverfront Park in Libby near the covered pavilion. The program begins with an orientation and distribution of free instructional materials covering winter wildlife observation techniques. Topics include habitat selection, bird identification, tracking fundamentals and scat identification.
The class will visit various field locations to practice bird spotting and animal tracking. Professional instructors will provide individual attention in small groups.
Advance registration is required for all participants. The minimum age is 16, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Pets are not permitted.
Participants should arrive prepared with a vehicle with a full gas tank, water, food and bird guidebooks. Weather-appropriate footwear and natural-colored or camouflage clothing are essential. Snowshoes are optional.
