 Dec. 22, 1974 — HANDEL’S MESSIAH THRILLS

A rendition of George Friedrich Handel’s most famous oratorio, “The Messiah,” was presented by the Pend Oreille Chamber Ensemble under the baton of Marian Ruyle and the Community Orchestra and Choir. Dr. Gene Munce welcomed the audience, which filled nearly every seat, and acknowledged the assistance of First Lutheran Church for rehearsals and First Baptist Church for dress rehearsal and Sunday’s performance. All soloists were area residents. They included Judy Riffe, alto; Dona Meehan and Jenifer Lynn Munce, sopranos; Marc Ball and John Munce, tenors; and Bruce Boyd and Randy Wagner, basses.

SJHS OPEN HOUSE FEATURES STYLE SHOW

The new homemaking department at Sandpoint High ninth grade building held an open house, with students from Mrs. Pat Prince’s five Consumer and Homemaking I classes modeling garments they had made in class as well as outfits from Four Seasons, Anthony’s and Crystal Butterfly. Visitors were also invited to view the displays of individual and class projects in the clothing room. For some it was a reminder of some 20 years ago when they took Home Ec in Room 1. With this year’s addition of the ninth grade program and Mrs. Sharon Cox’s half day at the Senior High, fifteen classes of consumer and home making education are taught each day in the two Sandpoint schools, three of them open to boys.

AIRPORT RUNWAYS GOOD

In spite of the recent heavy snowfalls, operations at the Sandpoint Air service are continuing with very little interruption. The runways are rolled frequently to keep the snow packed and firm so that planes equipped with either wheels or skis may use the airport. A Piper Cub at the local port has been equipped with skis for several days.
