PREP WRESTLING: Sandpoint girls earn fourth straight tourney win at Chad Ross

GIRLS

ST. MARIES — The Lady Bulldogs won six out of nine weight classes and recorded 163 more points than the second-place team as they captured their fourth straight tournament win at the Chad E. Ross Memorial Tournament held Saturday at St. Maries High.

Senior Emma Garman (120 pounds) won three matches, one by injury default, another by pin, and the championship by a 3-0 decision to take home gold. Vanessa Hood (126) won two matches by pin to capture an individual title.

Violet Henney (107), and Sylvia Becker (165-185) won three matches each, Mackenzee Donenfeld (100) and Zyxloh Johnson (152) two matches each to come away victorious in their round robin brackets.

Summer Birch (114) and Hunter Edmondson (120) wrestled to silver medals, Nya Eby (120), Avery Inge (126), Izzy Stark (132) and Bayah Ratigan (138-145) to bronze for Sandpoint, which scored 218.5 points in total, which was the same amount as the second-through-seventh place teams combined.

The Lady Bulldogs will return to action Jan. 3-4 in Nampa for the 25th annual Rollie Lane Invitational set to be held at the Ford Idaho Center.

BOYS

Bomba perfect at Lakeland Duals

LAKELAND — Sandpoint High junior William Bomba (285 pounds) won all three of his bouts and the Bulldogs went 1-2 as a team at the 5A Lakeland Duals on Saturday.

Bomba won his first two matches by way of a first round pin and his third by a 12-9 decision, which proved to be crucial as Sandpoint edged out Inland Empire League newcomer Lewiston by three points, 42-39.

Also picking up two wins for Sandpoint, which lost 49-30 to Minico and 57-21 to Lakeland, were Zak Wood (120), Charlie Becker (175), and Jackson Holman (215); Holman also had a third win by forfeit.

Jorden Tyler (190) won his one and only match on the day by a 17-1 technical fall.

Lakeland won the four-team affair, notching a 50-33 win over Lewiston and a 46-38 win over Minico.

Sandpoint will head to Nampa on Jan. 3-4 for the 25th annual Rollie Lane Invitational set to be held at the Ford Idaho Center.

McLaimtaig, Grimes grab second at Chad Ross

ST. MARIES — Priest River High seniors Colm McLaimtaig (144 pounds) and Orion Grimes (126) both reached the championship match in their respective weight classes at the Chad E. Ross Memorial Tournament held Saturday at St. Maries High.

Before falling in their finals matches, McLaimtaig won two matches by pin, Grimes two matches by pin and one by a 7-1 decision.

Senior Caleb Grow (285) finished third, winning four straight matches in the consolation bracket by the way of a first round pin. Junior Darien Ratzlaff placed fourth after posting a 2-2 record on the afternoon, winning one match by pin and the other by medical forfeit.

Sandpoint's Eli Taylor won the 157B bracket, winning two matches by pin and one by a 17-1 technical fall.
