Lewis Emerson, 88
Lewis Leslie Emerson, 88, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, in Ponderay, Idaho.
He will be laid to rest at the Pack River Cemetery and services will be announced in the spring.
Lew was born on May 25, 1935, in Portland, Ore., to Leslie and Florence Emerson. He graduated from Corbett High School, and then the Oregon Institute of Technology.
Lew married Joyce Johnson on March 27, 1955.
He worked as a mechanic in Gresham, for Mitchell Brother’s Trucking and Clackamas County. He loved motorcycles. The highlight of his life was working as a race mechanic for Ike Reed, a professional flat-track racer. He was involved in his son’s activities, and coached Little League baseball. He retired from Riddell International trucking and moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1994.
Lew dedicated many years to the Sandpoint Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending high school sports, playing pinochle and shooting pool at the Sandpoint Senior Center.
He is survived by his sister, Gayle (Jake) Smith of Bellingham, Wash.; two sons, Gordon Emerson (Laura) of Salem, Ore., and Michael Emerson (Elissa) of Sandpoint; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friend, Linda Dellinger of Ponderay, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Emerson; two sons, Charlie and Lance Emerson; his sister, Carol; and a brother, Frank.
