Appreciation event's bill is not city's responsibility

Included on the Sandpoint City Council agenda Wednesday, Feb. 7, is an itemized list of bills that the council generally approves without discussion.  

The second item on this list is $810 payable to 113 Main, Councilman Justin Dick's restaurant, for an "appreciation of service" event for Shelby Rognstad, Kate McAlister and Jennifer Stapleton.

In my opinion, this is a breach of ethics. The city should not pay this bill. Those who participated owe the bill. Those elected officials and any city employees who participated owe city residents a public apology for this serious lapse in judgment.
