Getting creative for art education

| February 7, 2024 1:00 AM

The Newport Creative District is hosting a community paint night at Newport High School next month.

Scheduled for March 14, the event aims to support young artists in the greater Newport area. Proceeds from the event will help fund the visual art scholarship offered by the Evergreen Art Association.

At the event, supporters get to play with paint as they raise funds for art scholarships for area high school graduates.

For the past 35 years, the Evergreen Art Association awarded $500 scholarships to graduating seniors from area schools or home school programs for continuing education in the field of visual arts, including fine art, commercial art, computer graphics, website design, and photography. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise the annual scholarship amount to $1,000.

The community painting event will be held in the multi-purpose room at Newport High School, 1380 Fifth St., Newport. The doors open at 6 p.m. for a casual dinner, and painting starts at 6:30 p.m. Step-by-step instructions and supplies will be provided for youths and adults to paint “Let Your Light Shine” with glowing Northern Lights and a grizzly bear. Tickets are available for $40 per person at newportcreativedistrict.com.

The Newport Creative District, a non-profit organization, has a mission to connect creativity, economy, and culture across the community.
