ALL-CLASS DISTRICT 1-2 GIRLS WRESTLING: Seven Bulldogs place, Sandpoint finishes second out of 17 teams

SPIRIT LAKE — Mackenzee Donenfeld (100) and Lilli Marti (235) both took home district titles to help lead Sandpoint to a second place finish at the All-Class District 1-2 girls wrestling championship held Thursday night at Timberlake High.

Donenfeld secured the district title at 100 pounds by defeating Sophia McLain of Kellogg by pin in the third period (5:40). Marti, after defeating Savannah Urrutia of Post Falls by pin (1:23), took down Hallie Hartman of Bonners Ferry in the championship match by a 6-0 decision.

Placing second for Sandpoint were Hunter Edmondson (107) and Emma Garman (120). Edmondson defeated Kellyn McMahon of Lake City by pin (1:02) before falling to Bonners Ferry’s Neveah Terrien in the championship match. Garman went an impressive 3-1 with three pins: Alexandrea Schroeder of Lakeland (2:19); Sammie Slyter of Lewiston (1:26), and then in the second-place match, Ireland Grady of Bonners Ferry (1:44).

Sylvia Becker (165) notched a third place finish. Izzy Stark (126) and Kaysha Kimura (138) both finished fourth for the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint finished second with 142 points. Bonners Ferry won the meet with a total of 183 points.

“Josh and I along with the entire coaching staff are absolutely proud of our team,” head coach Valerie Johansen said. “All season these girls have continued to demonstrate sportsmanship on and off the mat. We are looking forward to next week.”

Sandpoint will head to the IHSAA Girls State Championships set to be held Friday, Feb. 23, at Holt Arena in Pocatello.
