Feb. 15, 1949 – PLOWS REOPEN ROADS
County roads are generally cleared out again for traffic after the storm of the past week which blocked all east-west roads and most north and south arteries in the rural districts. Plows and dozers worked around the clock and by Tuesday afternoon had opened most roads, although a few dead end roads have not yet been opened. Snow continued today, which makes at least 17 inches of the white stuff that came down since last Friday morning. Season snowfall to date is 76 inches compared to a normal of 69 inches. Average February snowfall is 14 inches. Snow still on the ground approximated 36 inches, exceeding the previous record depth of 34 inches on Feb. 10, 1932.
