Nominations sought for 'Women of Wisdom'
SANDPOINT — Women Honoring Women has been recognizing individuals in Bonner County for 25 years.
Marsha Ogilvie, a former Sandpoint mayor and long-time volunteer, formed the organization in 1999 with the goal of identifying women who have contributed to the county through their leadership and service, inspiring younger generations. Since its foundation, WHW has honored over 125 women.
Now nominations are open for Women of Wisdom’s Class of 2024.
Candidates must be 65 years old or older, and have a history of achieving goals and possessing vision. They must exhibit a love of learning and show long-term commitment to positively impacting Bonner County. Demonstrated leadership, grace, courage and integrity are also sought after in a “woman of wisdom.”
The selection process begins with written nominations by friends, family, co-workers, or neighbors of the candidate. These letters of recommendation are often heartfelt stories of how women have touched the lives of others through their altruistic actions. While some women receive several nomination letters, others may receive only one. But it is not the number of nominations one receives; it is the story of how they have given back to the community that is important, WHW members said. The letters of nomination should speak directly to how the nominee fits the specific criteria.
The committee meets shortly after the nomination period closes and reads every nomination letter, which is when the nominees are selected.
Nomination letters must include the nominator’s name, email and phone number as well as the nominee’s name, email, phone number and address. Nominations will be accepted until May 1 via email. Posthumous nominations are also accepted.
