Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Joyce Dillon Studio adult art classes offer experienced artists the ability to hone their skills, while beginners learn to unleash their, often unexpected, talents. From classes in fiber art, watercolor and acrylic painting to forging copper and steel, classes are designed to bring out the creativity of each student.

POAC’s website, www.artinsandpoint.org/jds-student will give you all the details of each class including dates, the registration deadline, supplies if needed, and a short bio of the teachers. Each class is limited in size, so each student gets individual attention. And the best part is that students have a finished — or almost finished — art piece at the end.

Students learning forging at Dave Gonzo’s studio will learn the methods needed to create ornate copper and steel ladles. These classes are held Feb. 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dave’s Studio, 1023 Baldy Mountain Road. Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 16.

The Japanese fiber art form called Kimekomi is taught by Jenny Barry. “We cover basic cutting techniques for the foam, then cutting and tucking techniques for the fabric,” Barry said. This workshop-type class will be held at the Joyce Dillon Studio, 313 N. Second Avenue in Sandpoint on Feb. 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. Materials are provided. Registration deadline is Feb. 19.

Other classes include wildlife and landscape acrylic painting with Dan Carpenter, jewelry making with Mary Gayle Yount, glass windchimes with Julie Ellis, oil and cold wax painting with Jan Rust and metal sculptures with Dave Gonzo.

Pend Oreille Arts Council facilitates visual and performing arts to Bonner County. From art education in the schools with the Kaleidoscope program in elementary schools to the adult art classes at the Joyce Dillon Studio to the Art for Life program at the senior center POAC has programs that not only educate but also entertain.
