Be a part of ski hat history

| February 16, 2024 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — There is always room for a few more hands to carry the world’s longest ski hat in Friday's 51st annual Sandpoint Winter Carnival.

The hat will be the Bonner County Historical Society and Museum's entry in the event's Parade of Lights.

While museum officials said they’ve had many people reach out to help carry the 700-foot-long ski hat, more would be appreciated.

All interested are asked to gather at the Sandpoint city parking lot at 4:30 p.m. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m.

A special reception will be held before the parade for those volunteering to help carry the hat. The reception will be held from 1-4 p.m. at Elevate Realty, 212 N. First Ave., where the volunteers can see the ski hat up close and learn more about the project.

Gini Woodward and Scott Hadley made the hat prior to the 1977 Winter Carnival.

Other events slated for the 2024 Winter Carnival, which runs through Feb. 25, include fireworks, chili cook-offs, live music, and sleigh rides.

Founded in 1972, the Bonner County Historical Society and Museum is a private, non-profit organization.
