PRLHS readies for annual Career Day

| February 28, 2024 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — Area high school students will get to learn a little more about possible careers — and get to hear firsthand from former Priest River Lamanna High School students about their experiences in the workforce.

Speaking at the high school's annual Career Day on March 14 will be Jon Welch, Class of 2001, who works as a wildlife biologist; Jennifer Cork, Class of 1997, who is a doctoral of social work candidate; and Kevin Behnke, Class of 1998, who works as an international pilot for Atlas Air.

The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. where presenters will be welcomed with a continental breakfast before picking up name tags and room assignments. Students will start the day in their normal first-period class, watch a Ted Talk video, and go over expectations and schedules.

Welch is scheduled to lead off at 8:55 a.m. and will be followed by an introduction of former staff and faculty in attendance at the event.

Cork is slated to speak at 11:45 a.m., followed by short presentations by current faculty and staff. The first two of four planned breakout sessions will follow.

After lunch, students will return to their first-period classes to offer feedback on the morning's programs and to take part in a "teaser" for the afternoon.

Two additional breakout sessions will be held, followed by Behnke's presentation.

Students will return to their first-period classes to offer feedback on the afternoon's programs and to record their own snippets of what they got from the day and their time so far as students in the West Bonner County School District.
