Jan. 2, 1974 – GAS PIPELINE PROPOSED
The Sandpoint area could soon be the beneficiary of a new natural gas pipeline passing near this community. Two gas and pipeline companies are studying the possibility of forming a joint venture to build a natural gas pipeline that would transport 405 million cubic feet of gas per day. Present plans call for approximately half of the gas to be transmitted to Southern California, with the balance available to customers in the Pacific Northwest. The pipeline, which would tie into existing Canadian pipelines at Kingsgate near the Idaho-Montana border, would run near Sandpoint to Spokane, then south through the Palouse to Dayton, Wash., and LaGrande, Ore.

MRS. KRAUSE IS CONTEST WINNER
Mrs. Blanche Krause, Sandpoint, is a winner in The National Enquirer’s weekly feature – “Money-Saving Food-Shopping Secrets.” Her story appears in the Jan. 13 issue of the nationwide paper. Mrs. Krause’s entry, selected over 500 others to receive recognition and a $50 cash award, was as follows: “Once when pressed for a dessert, an idea came to me as we were finishing dinner. I excused myself from the table saying, ‘I have yet to put the finishing touches on dessert.’ I whipped up ½ can evaporated milk and added sugar to taste, then added just enough Strawberry Kool-Aid to flavor it and thicken the milk, whipping it in my mixer until stiff. You can use other flavors – and it freezes well, too.”
