Local trail among country's best
A Bonner County trail has been named among the top nature walks in the country, according to a poll by the website, Sustainable Jungle.
The Viewski Loop Trail near Sandpoint was among three Idaho trails voted among the top 150 nature walks in survey of families by the website. In addition to the Sandpoint area trail, named in Idaho were Revett Lake Trail near Mullan, and Around-The-Rock Trail in Castle Rock State Park.
Sustainable Jungle recently commissioned the survey aimed at discovering the best nature walks to do on New Year’s Day. They surveyed 3,000 families asking them to rate which New Year's Day nature walks across the U.S. they would most like to experience at the start of 2024. Sustainable Jungle then put together a list of the 150 most sought after nature walks to do on New Year’s Day.
Named in the top 10 in the U.S. were: Lanikai Pillbox Hike, Oahu, Hawaii; Lookout Mountain Trails, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Waimea Valley Botanical Gardens Trail, Oahu, Hawaii; Tomoka State Park, Fla.; Carlsbad Caverns National Park, N.M.; Amicalola Falls State Park Trails, Ga.; Discovery Park Loop Trail, Seattle, Wash.; San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Texas; Great Falls Park Trails near McLean, Va.; and Radnor Lake State Park Trails, Nashville, Tenn. The state of Idaho had tree nature walks voted among the 150 most popular in the country. These were: Viewski Loop Trail, No. 60; Revett Lake Trail, No. 74; and Around-The-Rock Trail, No. 79, in Castle Rock State Park.
“These top 150 nature walks provide a guide for anyone interested in enjoying the beauty of the outdoors while fostering a deeper appreciation for our natural world. By exploring these destinations, we hope to inspire a greater sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment as we embark on a new year of conservation, renewal and change,” Sustainable Jungle's Amber McDaniel said.
