Dawson Driggs, Whitworth University Basketball

Sandpoint graduate Dawson Driggs has battled injuries throughout her college career, but never gave up. Now, in her senior year at Whitworth, she’s making a huge impact for the Pirates. Thirteen games into the season, Driggs is shooting 35.8% from the floor (19-for-53) and 33.3% from behind the three-point line (12-for-36). Overall, she has scored 70 points (5.4/game) hauled in 37 rebounds (2.9/game) and has added nine steals and 11 assists while averaging 19.6 minutes of floor time per game. She recently scored a career-high 13 points in a game against Chapman, which included three made 3-pointers, and recorded a career-high eight rebounds in a loss to Lewis & Clark College. Whitworth (4-9, 1-3) plays George Fox on the road this Friday.

Evan Barajas, NIC Wrestling

The Bonners Ferry alumni got back into the win column after a bit of a rough stretch by defeating Ruben Hernandez of Southwestern Oregon Community College via decision, 7-3, and picking up a win via forfeit against an Umpqua Community College opponent Jan. 5. The Cardinals won both those dual meets, 46-9 over Umpqua, and 35-12 over Southwestern Oregon. NIC will compete next at the 2023 NJCAA Duals at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Okla.

Jackson Rickter, Waldorf University Wrestling

At the Central Under Armour Invite held at Central College in Pella, Iowa, the 2022 Bonners Ferry graduate placed fourth in the 197-pound gold bracket. Before falling in the semi-final and third-fourth place match, Rickter pinned Brenick Hoppe of Morningside (3:49) in the quarterfinals to pick up his 10th victory of the season. Waldorf will compete next at Spartan Invite in St. Louis, Miss., on Jan. 13.
