Jan. 9, 1974 – POWER CRUNCH EASING

Untold numbers of reports, studies and warnings from federal and state agencies and utilities groups have warned of a shortage of electrical energy, and appealed for conservation. To clarify the situation, Bert Leonard, PP & L district manager, said, “There definitely was an energy ‘crisis’ in the Northwest, brought about by the worst dry spell in nearly 100 years. Two key things eased that critical status. First, we are all aware of the heavy precipitation and warm temperatures we are experiencing. Second is the voluntary use of conservation practices by our customers, who are to be commended.”

SKIERS ASKED TO MEET

All ski enthusiasts are invited to attend a ski club meeting Thursday at 7:30 at Community hall, said Ward Tifft of the Roundup Ski club. Plans for further development of Pine street ski run will be discussed. With the best snow and winter temperatures in recent years, Pine street hill has been the focal point for local skiers over the holidays. The ski tow owned by the Roundtop club was placed in operation with Thad Lowary supervising installation and operating it. The hill, which offers a good variety of skiing, was made more accessible by Ralph Samson, U of I experiment farm superintendent, who took a tractor with a bulldozer blade and made a good parking place for a fair number of cars. It is tentatively planned to provide some more lights for night skiing.
