District to hold school today

SANDPOINT — While school is open today, Lake Pend Oreille School District Superintendent Becky Meyer said Thursday that parents should decide for themselves on whether they should send their children to school or not due to the expected freezing temperatures.

"If your conditions do not allow for your child to get back and forth from school safely, please keep them home and call your school office to excuse your child," she said. "No verified absence tomorrow will be counted in a student's total attendance."

Meyer said all recesses will be held inside today to ensure that children at school stay safe and warm throughout the whole day, but encouraged families to do what was best for themselves individually.

The superintendent also urged families in need of additional snow apparel to contact their school, as there are abundant winter donations available to students.
