Raptor class set for Jan. 20

Are you looking for something fun to do? You might consider the upcoming raptor search and animal tracking class.

The class will be held in the Sandpoint area Saturday, Jan. 20, starting at 9 a.m. 

Those interested should meet at the southwest corner of the Samuel's Store parking lot, located 12 miles north of Sandpoint at 486260 U.S. 95.

The program will begin at the Blue Heron Cafe, located inside the store, where participants will have coffee and briefly go over the basics of searching for raptors. The group also will be looking for waterfowl, woodpeckers, songbirds, and shorebirds. The program will also go over the basics of animal tracking and sign interpretation.

After the brief session, expected to take 30 minutes or less, participants will begin their field exploration with road tours, short walks, and stops at convenient observation points.

Participants should come prepared with full gas tanks, proper layered winter clothing, winter boots, water, lunch, snacks, bird and track field guides, binoculars, spotting scopes, and a good sense of humor. Snowshoes and ski poles are optional.

Small groups to enhance individual attention by instructor, and facilitate hassle free parking. Participants may be asked to "truck-pool" in 4WD vehicles. 

Adults only; no pets.

All participants must register to attend.
