Developers need to think about area's seniors
I wonder where the thought for so many low-income rentals, in Sandpoint, came from.
However, they cost over $1,200 a month. Low income?
What about the senior residents who need better housing and lower costs?
Some are paying over $4,000 a month for one-bedroom apartments with meals available.
Even major businesses are building apartments for their employees who cannot afford the rent they are being asked to pay.
What is wrong with this picture?
When I drive into town I am amazed at all the new development. High-rise apartments that look like hotels, and not one single-level, two-bedroom, two-bath home built with the thought of senior residents. Without stairs, smaller yards, lawn care, laundry rooms in each unit, and maintenance man available. A garage between each unit would be nice.
Am I asking for too much? I think not.
Knowing several senior women, some widows like myself who would love a chance to find such a home to buy or to rent and I'm sure there are many, many more looking and in need.
Developers, think about it. The market is out there and you could make such a difference to long-time senior residents who need your help!
