CAGIN’ QUEENS TIED FOR FIRST
The SHS girls’ basketball team moved into a tie for first place in their league by defeating Post Falls, 32-22, at Post Falls. The Trojans were the only team to defeat the Cagin’ Queens earlier in the season. The teams are now tied for first place with identical 4-1 records. “Hanna Munson really saved the game for us,” said coach Holly Aldridge. “Hanna stepped to the charity stripe with the score only two points apart and sank two buckets. That sparked the gals, who made eight straight points while holding Post Falls to two.” She added that free throws won the game, as the Queens shot 52 percent from the stripe. Starla Rigby was high scorer with 14 points.

LOCAL ‘FISH FACTORY’ ONE OF A KIND
One of the area’s best-known industries, the “fish factory” is the smokehouse of F.D. “Red” Evans, 1116 Pine, who does a thriving business handling whitefish taken by commercial fishermen. It means long hours daily for Evans, his son, Ishmael, and a helper, it means welcome winter income for the men who take out commercial fishing licenses, and it means that people in nearly every state in the Union will soon be enjoying the smoked delicacy. Among old-timers fishing for Evans are the Reynolds brothers, Bill Zinter, George Willi, John Kaiser, Lou Whetsler, Albert Fox, Chet Solomon, and Tommy Wales. Evans, who started his smokehouse in 1919, makes his own shipping boxes, and will pack smoked fish in any quantity from 2 to 50 pounds. Most popular is the 6-lb. box which retails for $5.
