National budget, immigration top town hall

| January 17, 2024 1:00 AM

More than 50 constituents turned out to talk with U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher at his Monday town hall despite the below-freezing temperatures.

Fulcher started off the night by giving a brief legislative update touching on accomplishments from the previous year, and explaining what could happen this week regarding the national budget.

For the remainder of the night, Congressman Fulcher answered questions from community members on a wide range of topics. One of the biggest being the southern border of the United States.

“The United States sees more legal immigration than anywhere in the world,” Fulcher said. “The individuals entering illegally are not coming with hopes of living out the ‘American Dream.’ They are helping China bring fentanyl across the border. They are trafficking an all-time high number of women and children. They are known terrorists on the FBI watch list, and more.”

The Lower Snake River Dams were another big topic of the night as individuals expressed concern for their communities if the dams were removed. Fulcher told those present that Congress would have to approve the dam's removal — and was something he opposed.

Fulcher also answered questions on the Good Neighbor Authority, federal land, the national budget, COVID-19, and more.

Fulcher then answered questions and addressed concerns.
