WBCSD outlines school closure policy

| January 17, 2024 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — As soon as inclement weather is on the horizon, West Bonner County School District officials assess the impact on school operations.

That means checking weather information at 4 a.m. from local agencies and the district's school team to determine if normal school operations are possible, officials said on the district's website.

Then, operations director Ryan Carruth and interim Superintendent Joe Kren will confer at 4:30 a.m. Kren would then make a final decision if school needs to be canceled for that day.

District officials said a final decision is typically made by 5 a.m. If the decision is made to close schools, building principals and department directors will be contacted.

Those individuals are then tasked with initiating their respective phone trees so that key employees will be notified.

The next step would be for Carruth to announce any closures on the WBCSD snow line, send out a districtwide email, and text to all parents via Skylert. Local news agencies also would be alerted of the closure.

The number for the district snow line is 208-448-1874.
