Jan. 21, 1974 – COUNCIL BANS SMOKING
After Councilman Ozzie Vallieres’ motion to ban smoking in council chambers, the Sandpoint City Council on Monday voted 4 to 2 to do away with the offensive haze. The only negative votes were cast by non-smoker Bud Benoit and smoker Ed Eitzman.

BULLDOG GRAPPLERS AT KELLOGG
Two SHS wrestlers placed first in their weight divisions in the Kellogg tournament Saturday. Senior Brad Bruhn remained undefeated in his heavyweight class. He got into the finals with a first round bye, then pinned his Lakeland opponent for the division title. Bruhn has scored all of his wins by pins this season. Another first place winner was senior Bulldog Mark Lyons, 168. After pinning his first opponent, he romped to a 6-1 decision in the finals. Three Bulldogs got into the finals and took second place points: Jeff Lyons, 120; Dan Lyons, 145; and Bob Byfield, 155. Dean Welter, 101, placed third.

Jan. 21, 1949 – TAKE NAVY PHYSICALS
Jack Ames, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest P. Ames, and Bob Chaney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Chaney, all of Dover, went to Spokane last week to take physicals prior to enlisting in the navy.

YOUNG BOYS INJURED
William Temple, 6, fell against the hot stove at his home Friday, severely burning the palm of his right hand. Treatment was required at the clinic. The small boy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Temple of Ponderay. Tuesday, little Dickie Niebuhr, 2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melford Niebuhr, rte. 1, had the middle finger of his right hand painfully crushed in a car door. Stitches and a splint were applied at the clinic.

IMPORTANT MEETING ON SEWER PROJECT
Mayor Don Diehl notified the News-Bulletin that a meeting has been called for next Wednesday for those interested in the sewer project proposed and planned for the area west of Boyer avenue.

HART RETURNING FROM GERMANY
Claude Hart, executive of the civilian personnel branch at Heidelberg, Germany, the past three years, is returning to the U.S. Hart said he enjoyed the job but that uppermost in his mind was settling in “the best town in the world,” Sandpoint, if he could get a job here. Mrs. Hart and daughters arrived here in November from Germany and reside on Huron St.
