Why are taxpayers not given proper credit?

| January 21, 2024 1:00 AM

Wonderful and refreshing insight as to what Idaho has become. I am referring to the article concerning parking published on Dec. 22, 2023.

Instead of an attitude of “can do,” “let us all pitch in,” “roll up our sleeves,” “git ‘er done,” or “we work for you,” employees of the taxpayer (parking enforcement, council, street maintenance, etc.) have instead invoked the "do as I say or pay" attitude. They then proceed to “pat” themselves on the back for a job well done and spend your money on signage, enforcement, etc.

I wonder what long-term effect it would have if the word “taxpayers” were used instead of “city” when articles are written. Taxpayers paid to have this road paved; taxpayers paid for the new intersection; taxpayers voted to pay and spend for the new pickleball, basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc. Taxpayers pay employee salary, retirement, and health insurance. Taxpayers paid for and voted for (via elected officials) the snow removal resolution, signage, and enforcement.

I am grateful to still have a sense of wonderment as the world around us continues to self-destruct.
