Nordic club offering skiing lessons
SANDPOINT — Have you always wanted to learn how to cross-country ski but never knew where to start?
The Sandpoint Nordic Club is offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiing lessons at the Pine Street Woods for anyone looking to get into the sport or perfect their technique.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, two classes will be offered for beginners from 9-11 a.m.. and from 1-3 p.m.
“You will be taught basic techniques and will meet other new skiers,” the Nordic Club staff said. “A pair of classic ski rentals — boots, skis and poles — is included.”
Only 24 spots are available for each class, so register soon to grab a spot. The cost for the beginner class is $20 per person or $45 for the whole family.
Intermediate and advanced classes are being offered Jan. 27 from 9-11 a.m. This two-hour class will be instructed by local resident and former U.S. Nordic team Olympian Rebecca Dussault.
“Rebecca is both an amazing skier and an amazing coach,” staff said. “This clinic is for classic skiers who are able to ski all the Pine Street Woods trails, have a good knowledge of classic ski technique and want to refresh and refine their skills.”
Participants are welcome to bring their own gear but are asked to show up half an hour early if they plan to rent gear. The cost for club members is $30 and $35 for nonmembers. Rentals are not included in the registration cost.
Beginners can come back to the Pine Street Woods on Jan. 28 for another beginner clinic, this time for skate skiing.
“This beginner skate ski clinic will introduce you to the basic techniques, tips and tricks to get you proficient with skate skiing,” staff said.
This clinic will also be taught by Dussault from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This lesson is for skiers who have never or very rarely skate skied before. The cost for this clinic is $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers, not including rentals.
