PREP WRESTLING: Tyler second, Walters fourth for Sandpoint boys at North Idaho Rumble

COEUR d’ALENE – Sandpoint’s Jorden Tyler (195) and Gavin Walters (285) finished second and fourth, respectively, to lead the Bulldogs at the North Idaho Rumble held at Coeur d’Alene High on Saturday.

Tyler pinned all four of his opponents leading up to the championship match: Brodie Moody, Newport, 0:44; Harman Gaby, Lake City, 3:16; Ty Paulin, Coeur d'Alene, 1:54; and Kendall Sage, Post Falls, 4:35. In the championship match, Tyler fought hard but fell to Garrett Leonard of Lake City by an 11-3 major decision. Sage and Leonard and currently ranked among the top six wrestlers at 195 pounds in Idaho’s 5A classification.

Walters picked up three wins on Saturday, pinning Kyle Rivera of Lewiston (0:45), JD McWalter of Gallatin (1:30), and defeating Roman Tannehill of Newport by a 4-0 decision in the consolation semifinals.

Sandpoint’s Jeramiah Palmer (195) and Shane Sherrill (138) also picked up sixth place finishes, both winning three matches each.

Sandpoint will be back in action Feb. 2-3 at the Conrad Garner Duals at Bonners Ferry High.
